The Rapid City Woodworkers Association (RCWA) will be sharing their skills and showing finished wood products during their 8th annual Woodworking Show. It will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knecht Home Center, intersection of West Boulevard and Omaha St. The event is free to the public, Those interested in finding out more about woodworking and this organization are particularly welcomed.

The show will feature displays of fine woodworking projects by individual members. Special displays this year for the family will be wooden items related to old time carnival games which the children can enjoy. There will also be live demonstrations of woodturning, scroll sawing, and use of hand tools. Visitors to the show can also register to win various donated wooden items made by members. A raffle will be held for selected wooden items. Proceeds will be used to buy supplies for RCWA’s Toy Making Program with products given at Christmas to children who are assisted by community service organizations. Members will also give away older copies of national woodworking magazines which include plans for building items.

Woodworking demonstrations will include several projects. These will explain making wooden toys, turning bowls, and using a scroll saw for name signs. Children can have their first names cut from wood and take them home. Visitors are also welcomed to help sand toy parts. Members of the RCWA will be available to share advice as well as swap ideas for techniques and projects from those attending the show.
